Allan Cameron (15th February. 1908 - 28th December 1996)

Allan Cameron, my Grandfather was born in Motherwell. His parents were
John Cameron and Catherine Bulloch. He spent the early years of his life at Harburn near West Calder, Midlothian until moving, with his parents to Burnside Estate, by Forfar, Angus where his father had obtained a position as gamekeeper. Allan was 14 years old when they moved, he had already left school and started his employment on the estate as assistant to his father during November 1922. That day was the beginning of the rest of Allan's life for he was to remain on the estate as gamekeeper for almost 70 years before retiring and moving into the outskirts of Forfar town with his Daughter Gina. |

The character heading this page was a design used to head the chapter titled "Almost A Fixture" in a publication entitled "More tales of the Old Gamekeeper". The chapter is a summarised biography of my grandfather's life as a gamekeeper and makes interesting and amusing reading. The story depicts how life was in "the good old days" when sporting estates were run by the gentry for the gentry… nowadays it seems most estates are run on a slightly different note. The book, for anyone who is interested in reading it was written by a gentleman by the name of Brian P Martin. The ISBN code of the publication is 07153 0057 1. |

Foxes were always high on my Grandfather's hit list. Here he is seen displaying his latest "hit". The picture was taken at the back of his home, "The Lodge" on Burnside Estate. |

Taken on "the drive", at the front of the lodge. My grandfather with my father who would have been around 7 years old at the time so I estimate this picture was taken in 1951. |
This picture was taken mid February 1995 and shows Allan holding my son, another Allan who at the time was only 3 weeks old. |
